Larry Sommer

Lawrence J. Sommer is a museum/nonprofit organization management and historic preservation planning consultant based in St. Paul, Minnesota. During his thirty year career he served as State Historic Preservation Officer for Nebraska, Director and CEO of the Nebraska and Montana State Historical Societies, Director of the St. Louis County Historical Society and Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, Minnesota and as a city planning official and consultant in several states. Sommer is a graduate of Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota and holds a M.A. Degree from the University of Minnesota. He is author/editor of three books and numerous other articles and technical reports related to museum management, historic preservation planning, architectural and local history. He has been a consultant for the AAM Museum Assessment Program since 1982 and an AAM Museum Accreditation Program visiting committee member since 1996. He has conducted over forty museum assessment and accreditation reviews.
